Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Vice-President of the French Cercle des économistes, Christian de Boissieu was also President of the Conseil d’analyse économique (CAE), attached to the French Prime Minister (2003-2011), and a member of the Board of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) (2011-2018). Since the 1980s, he has been an economic advisor and consultant to several African states and financial institutions.
A specialist of monetary and banking issues, his experience as an economist will be an invaluable asset for many of the issues ASAFO & CO. is working on, particularly in relation to the regional and global banking environment, and the related challenges facing Africa’s financial services. ASAFO & CO.’s teams will work with Christian on regulatory and financial market structuring mechanisms, as well as on new issues arising from fintech innovation and the introduction of new financial instruments in Africa. The firm’s African sovereign debt will also be strengthened by Christian’s perspective and now include a dimension that goes beyond the fundamental know-how of legal advisors in this area.
Christian de Boissieu, Senior Advisor, ASAFO & CO.: “I am delighted to be partnering with ASAFO & CO. I have worked on several assignments in Africa during my career, in particular with the World Bank, and I was drawn to the idea of working with a law firm 100% dedicated to Africa. The firm’s teams will benefit from my additional experience, and I think I can help them anticipate the needs and future developments in Africa’s banking and financial markets, particularly with regard to government debt and the acceleration of certain financing tools to attract more capital from foreign investors and to better mobilize domestic savings.”
